Gathering Stories from 25 Years

5 March 2024

Pennies wants to hear from former children and parents to gather a bank of stories as part of our celebrations for 25 years of operations in and around Maidstone. Pennies Day Nurseries opened their first setting in the county on Hockers Lane, Weavering on 9 March 1999, a much larger facility at Newnham Court Shopping Village six years later and a forest school in the Kent Downs AONB last year. For most of that time, Pennies has also run breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs for children up to 11 years of age. All former children and parents, regardless of how long they were involved with Pennies, are welcome to get in touch. Pennies want to collect stories of times spent with them, including fond childhood memories to build their own historic record of childcare over the last quarter of a century.

A Pennies’ spokesperson said: “We have social media these days, which wasn’t part of our work in 1999, so the best way people can get in touch is to find our Facebook page and message us. We’d love to get back to as many people as possible and start conversations.”
